Legale and Power BI: analyze your document data

Legale connects with Microsoft Power BI so you can turn your document workflows, signatures and user activity into visual reports. An API method designed for Power BI delivers the data for each document type ready to build dashboards with the metrics your team cares about: how many documents are signed, how long approvals take and where processes get stuck.

What you can analyze

  • Document status: signed, pending and in progress.
  • Average approval workflow times.
  • User activity and system performance.
  • Usage patterns, trends and peak activity times.

The available metrics depend on the data you include in your reporting model. With Power BI filters and drill-down you can go from an overview to what happens in each process, compare results and share them with your team.

What data the Power BI API provides

The Power BI API method works by document type. It returns all the fields you already have in the Excel export and adds others for more complete reports:

  • the tablet the document was sent to for signing,
  • the signing stage on that tablet,
  • the remote signing URL, when applicable,
  • the document creation date,
  • the document ID, and
  • the rejection date, if any.

With this data you can track each document, know which device it was signed on and build detailed reports for both Legale Mobile and regular document workflows. In the API v2 documentation, the Power BI methods are in their own Business Intelligence folder, where other business intelligence integrations will be added.

How it works

  1. Define what you want to measure: the document workflows, business questions and key metrics your team needs to track.
  2. Connect and configure: bring Legale data into your Power BI setup and define the data model, access permissions and refresh frequency.
  3. Explore and improve: review the dashboards, apply filters and compare results to spot bottlenecks and improve your processes.

How current the data is depends on the connection and the refresh settings you choose.

Dashboard examples

These are some dashboards you can build with Legale data:

  • Document summary: total documents in a period, how many are signed, in progress and pending, and the monthly volume of documents created and completed.
  • Workflow performance: average completion time and the share of documents completed on time, to see which approvals need attention.
  • Activity and adoption: active users, recorded actions and how they split between viewing, signing, reviewing and uploading documents.

Why it’s worth it

Your document data is more useful when your team can understand it. Seeing document status, timing and activity in one place helps you spot where processes slow down, prioritize improvements and review how results change over time.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to use the integration?

A Legale account and Microsoft Power BI, where you build the reports with the data the API provides.

How current is the data?

It depends on the connection and the refresh frequency you configure in Power BI.

Does it include documents signed on a tablet?

Yes. The method returns the tablet each document was sent to and its signing stage.

Where is the technical documentation?

In the Legale API v2 documentation, inside the Business Intelligence folder. You can start with the API documentation.
